For me, someone who ordinarily doesn’t read psychological thrillers, this book was both creepy and compelling. The writers, who collaborated via Google Docs to create this story, use two distinctly different voices for Dr. Shields (a successful psychologist) and for Jess (a young makeup artist) in New York City. The novel grapples with questions such as “How vulnerable are we to manipulation?” “How do the dynamics of your upbringing affect decisions you make years later?” and “Is it possible to look someone you love in the eye, and lie, without feeling remorse?” Even right up to the end, the most fundamental motives of the two main characters are not fully revealed, which enables the authors to weave feelings of danger throughout the pages, leaving us to wonder if the heroine will survive until the end. This book will grab you and not let you go until you reach the finish line.
